About Us
St. Anthony's was founded in 1957 in Kitimat, British Columbia by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Prince George (CISPG) and belongs to Christ the King Parish. We offer classes from Pre-Kindergarten to Middle School (grades 7-8-9) with a total staff of 21 Classroom Teachers, Educational Assistants and Specialty Teachers. Our student population is over 200 students and growing!
The school is currently in the process of sourcing new facilities to relocate to our school grounds so that we may continue to increase and develop our school student body.
Staff, students and parents will find our school, a nurturing community atmosphere that enable our students to grow and develop to the best of his/her ability. Our philosophy supports educating the whole child to develop God-given talents as completely as possible, so each child will become a productive member of our society. We are committed to creating an educational program which strives to provide academic excellence while at the same time enriching it with our Catholic Faith.
At St. Anthony's Catholic School, parents are recognized as the primary educators and spiritual leaders of their children. Working together through to assist the parents in providing the skills, knowledge and values our students need to face today's many challenges. St. Anthony's celebrates diversity of ethnic backgrounds and welcomes all denominations of faith; providing an environment where we can learn from one another.

HISTORY
St. Anthony’s School is an integral part of the local Catholic Parish of Christ the King.
One of the Catholic Independent Schools Association in British Columbia – it is inspected by the Superintendent of Instruction from Prince George and by representatives designated by the Department of Education of the Province of B.C.
A locally elected School Board, an active Parent Group and a fully qualified staff are dedicated …
“To educate the whole child to develop his/her God-given talents as completely as possible so they will be productive members of society. We are committed to creating an educational programme which strives to provide academic excellence. At the same time, the academic progress is enriched with our Catholic faith.”
Built by generous donations and a large volunteer work force (over 300 people logged over 4,000 hours) St. Anthony’s opened for registrations in the Kitimat community in September, 1957, under the direction of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Toronto, along with two local teachers and a Frontier Apostle, all of whom worked without salaries. Many of the first 170 to register were ESL students. In 1958 the parish added a large gymnasium. By the mid sixties, senior grades 8 and 9 were dropped; more recently kindergarten was added, along with extensive renovations. There was a teaching staff of 12 in 2000.
Provincial funding, first granted to independent schools in 1979 at 30%, now stands at 50% of what is allotted per student attending a public school. To make up some of the difference needed to operate the school, student families pay a monthly tuition rate. As well, our staff members accept a reduced salary and we turn to our PSG for fundraising. All of these methods ensure we are able to operate and maintain the school.
Kindergarten and grades 1-9 inclusive, follow the B.C. academic curriculum as outlined by the Ministry of Education, in a Christian atmosphere promoting love and service of God and of all others, as well as personal development. Graduates of St. Anthony’s have built a fine, disciplined academic reputation, as well as a concerned generosity within and for the community.
All parishioners are invited to enroll their children as are children of other denominations! St. Anthony’s is NOT a private school, but rather an independent school. Inquiries re: fee schedule, code of ethics, uniform, class openings or any school policies are always welcomed. St. Anthony’s is proud of its over 50 year history.
To arrange a visit or interview please contact the school administration during regular school hours.
