School Council

St. Anthony's School Council is an elected body, which oversees the governance of the school and forms policy and direction to support the Mission and Philosophy statements. The Council consists of actively practicing Catholic parents or supporters of the school and is bound by rules of Policy set by the Diocesan Catholic Independent School Board in Prince George.

Meetings:

St. Anthony's School Council meets monthly in the school staff room, unless otherwise noted. Meeting are posted in the Nalabila Monthly. All parents and guardians of St. Anthony's students are welcome to attend as observers. Guest may be invited to speak on specific topics as needed. 

1.Meetings of the School Council will be open to the public except for in-camera sessions. 

2. A quorum shall be defined as a simple majority of the total membership. In the event that a quorum is not present, the meeting can be conducted, but motions must be tabled until the next meeting with a quorum.

3. Attendance by a member of the teaching staff (who does not vote) is strongly encouraged. The principal is not a member of the School Council, but should be present at the entire meeting, with the exception of some in-camera sessions.

4. Requests by non-members to speak or make a presentation at a Council meeting must be made in writing with a minimum of seven days’ notice prior to the meeting. Delegations must provide a written copy of their material as well as the name of their spokesperson.

5. Prior to the meeting the chairperson will prepare and circulate the agenda and supporting documents.

6. Any procedures not included above will be according to Robert’s Rules of Order

Delegation requests: presenting to school council

School Council may receive request from individuals or groups to address meetings, provide advance notice and written text are provided. 

Procedure:
  1. Delegations to appear must: 
    1. Notify the Chair of school council in writing at least one week prior to the meeting date;
    2. Name the spokesperson and the subject of the presentation
    3. present a written statement  in advance for circulation with the agenda
  2. A delegation which presents itself at the meeting without prior notice will not be received. 
  3. There will be no debate on the issue between members of council and the presenters, but council members may seek clarification through questions to the presenter.
  4. Delegations will be limited to a spokesperson and two others
  5. A response from the council will be provided in writing, usually prior to the next regular meeting.
